Context & Challenge

Challenge

A social media challenge called #Trashtag inspired a group of volunteers in Kuwait to spontaneously rendezvous at a polluted beach in Kuwait for a clean-up. Having filled up 23 trashbags with beach clutter, they made it to the front page of Reddit due to their accomplishment. They have been doing great voluntary work ever since.

Their activites now range from cleaning up polluted areas in Kuwait, visiting hospitals for children, food re-distribution, teaming up with various companies for voluntary work and more.

As they grew, they realised the need for a good logo. I decided to volunteer & developed a branding + identity system that they can use across their communication platforms.

The Process

Logo Breakdown

An inside joke within the group is that the blue ‘bakala’ (general store) bag is a frequent find during their clean-ups. Since a trashbag alone would not be an aesthetic choice, I incorporated leaves to resemble the tied ends of the trashbag while retaining the appearance of one.

The leaves allude to growth & hope. The hashtag symbol is an essential part of the group’s history & identity, stylistically tilted to the left side. I tried to create a lovable and memorable logo, to be treasured by those who passionately want to make a difference.
